The Grandes Fougères park

Discovering the Rain Forest

Founded in 2008, the park has a scientific and environmentalist mission, with the aim of conserving the tropical rainforest ecosystems.

The essential

Hearthland of tropical rain forest

According to the Research for Development Institute, around 500 species of plants, the majority of them endemic to New Caledonia, grow in the Grandes Fougeres Park. Undoubtably the local star is the illustrious tree fern. Having existed on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, there are some 13,000 species worldwide, quite a few of which can be found in New Caledonia. The park is also home to a great variety of birds species, such as the Caledonian warbler, the New Caledonian imperial pigeon, or the famous green pigeon. Whether you are on foot or mountain bike, a 30-kilometre network of tracks awaits you, be it for a quiet hour and a half family stroll or a more vigorous full-day hike. There are lovely, equiped picnic sites all along the way, where you can have your lunch or a snack.

Explore the Park with Exciting Activities

Walking and Birdwatching

Once a month, there is the option of an organized visit to the park dedicated to the theme of our feathered friends. If you are in a group of at least four people, you can also ask for a guide to accompany you on a walk. In addition, Caledonia Birds offers guided tours to get to know the avian species that inhabit the park.

Farino's heart

Ever since it was made famous by the film director Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the "Heart of Voh" has been familiar worldwide.Few people realise that New Caledonia's soils also harbour another "heart" charcterized by nature: the Heart of Farino. Considerably more compact than its neighbour Voh, if can be admired from the Monier Creek, flowing through the core of the Grandes Fougeres Park- a small sign points the way there. Keep your eyes wide open to spot this charming little gem, which has carved its way amongst the rocks. Your ticket to New Caledonia is sure to live up to your expectations!

By footbike or horseback in the park

For those who wish to get around with some type of transport other than a bicycle, think about booking a footbike from Kick n'Ride. This sporty scooter is a unique alternative to the traditional mountain bike. Set out on an excursion tour, lasting one or two days, with La Foa Randonnées.
