According to the Research for Development Institute, around 500 species of plants, the majority of them endemic to New Caledonia, grow in the Grandes Fougeres Park. Undoubtably the local star is the illustrious tree fern. Having existed on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, there are some 13,000 species worldwide, quite a few of which can be found in New Caledonia. The park is also home to a great variety of birds species, such as the Caledonian warbler, the New Caledonian imperial pigeon, or the famous green pigeon. Whether you are on foot or mountain bike, a 30-kilometre network of tracks awaits you, be it for a quiet hour and a half family stroll or a more vigorous full-day hike. There are lovely, equiped picnic sites all along the way, where you can have your lunch or a snack.
